Designers tackle the theme “Unboxing Experience” – Model Young Package, the international competition of package design, reveals results on 23 September at CAMP

This year’s 24 th annual instalment of international packaging design competition Model
Young Package was given the attractive theme Unboxing Experience. 666 Designs
were sent to the organisation Czechdesign and originated from 66 countries around
the world. The best will be presented on 23 September at CAMP (Center for
Architecture and Urban Planning) in Prague.

The international competition of packaging design for designers and students is organised by
Czechdesign for the company Model Obaly, a.s. The competition is the largest of its kind in
the world, and gives participants a unique chance see how their designs fare against
international competition. Winners in 2019 will be receiving prize money totalling 6,200
euros.

This year’s competition challenged designers to think about the ways in which the packaging,
function, environment and unboxing experience combine. How did contestants deal with the
topic? Did they develop a visionary approach, or come up with an innovative, playful design?
Contemplating these questions was a jury of eminent experts, stewarded by Jan Činčera –
the most respected packaging designer in the Czech Republic.

Results will be presented to the public as part of an official gala evening in Prague. Besides
the jury, also attending will be competitors from around the world, to whom financial prizes
will be awarded. The evening will be compered by Simona Babčáková, and following the
announcements will be a party with DJ Floex.

ABOUT THE MODEL YOUNG PACKAGE COMPETITION

The competition Model Young Package could not have been set up my any more competent
company than Model Obaly a.s. They are one of Europe’s biggest manufacturers of
packaging, and also operate their own Innovation Centre, where a cohort of designers are
constantly generating new designs. Thanks to their initiative, the competition has been
successfully run from 1996 through till today. Since 2009 the competition has been organised
on behalf of Model Obaly by the independent professional organisation Czechdesign.
Countless young creatives have cut their teeth in this competition, many of whom later
became respected designers: the first ever winner was Jan Čtvrtník, who in later years went
on to work for NASA, IKEA and Elektrolux. Other years have thrown up similarly talented
winners like Ladislav Škoda, Chief Designer at Tescoma and many others.
