This year the Model Young Package packaging design competition seeks the best unboxing experience

Another anniversary of a unique competition Model Young Package organised by CZECHDESIGN for the Model Obaly, a.s. company has just started. The international packaging design competition for students and designers celebrates its 23rd anniversary with an attractive theme: Unboxing experience! How do the competitors deal with this theme? Will they come up with a ground breaking and visionary design? A board of prominent industry professionals will evaluate that.

Model Young Package Competition is the biggest competition of it’s kind in the world and gives its participants an opportunity to compare their designs within a international environment.

This year, the winner will earn a reward of 6,200 EUR.

Theme Unboxing experience

The numbers of purchases made on the internet are constantly rising. On-line ordering is faster and easier, and customers are used to getting their products right at their doors in intact state. We live in an era a of social media and the popularity of unboxing videos is rising, but we deal with environmental problems related to abundance of waste as well.

This year’s Model Young Package Competition wants to stir up the discussion on this issue and asks the designers to think about a packaging that combines function, ecology and unboxing experience.

The sucesses of last year’s competition and its  winning design

Last year, the competition marked a huge success all around the world. In total, 948 competitors from 61 countries from all the continents submitted their works. Both students and renowned designers, for whom the participation means prestige, have contributed into the competition. The media were immensely interested in the theme “Coffee Mania” and its winning design from Veronika Janečková. This Czech designer came up with compostable coffee capsules made from kitchen waste transformed into a new material – bioplastic. The board awarded Veronika with the main prize for her “visionary environmental-friendly approach” and for finalized samples of the capsules. At the award ceremony in CAMP in Prague, seven winners were awarded, among whose were competitors from Poland and Taiwan.
